Eventuri Air intake VW Golf 7 / 7.5 GTi, R   VW Golf MK7 MK7.5 GTi, R Performance Increase : 16-25hp, 15-22ft-lb The VAG 2.0 TFSi Eventuri intake has been developed to provide the most efficient and direct airflow path to the turbo. By replacing the OEM our Patent Pending Venturi housing and coupling this with a smooth duct, we have ensured that the airlfow remains as laminar as possible. Furthermore, the addition of a true cold air feed by adding a scoop to the front grill results in the lowest possible inlet air temperature. The result is an optimised intake system which delivers noticeable performance gains consistently. The Eventuri Difference The 2.0 TFSi system uses our Patent Pending Carbon fibre Housing which provides an aerodynamically efficient airflow path from the filter to the turbo tube. Not just another cone filter with a heat shield but a unique design which allows airflow to remain laminar and thus improve the turbo efficiency. The standard airbox is cuboid in shape which gives rise to turbulence and increases the drag on the turbo as a result. Furthermore it draws air from a duct, which despite extending over the entire grill is in fact only open on one side and this opening is also facing the engine so the airbox draws in warm engine bay heat. In addition, when the bonnet is closed, the only direct path for cold air is from the small slots in the top of the grill (for the Golf 7 variants). The following dyno graphs show the before and after results on a Golf 7 R which already had a remap. So both the stock airbox and the Eventuri were tested with the same remap in place. All tests were carried out back to back on the same day with the BONNET CLOSED ON ALL OCCASIONS. The testing showed that the double duct did not produce more power, in fact we could not achieve the same results as we did with our single duct design. This is because the single duct allows for the smoothest and most direct airflow path to the filter. With the scoop directly in front of the opening there is no chance for warm air to mix with the airflow. Furthermore on the double duct, the airflow has to travel at almost a 90 degree angle from the far side of the grill to then enter the filter housing. Here is a dyno graph showing the results we achieved with both duct designs: The Eventuri Golf 7 intake system consists of a number of components engineered to perform a specific purpose and fabricated to the highest of standards. Here are the details for each component and the design ethos behind them: Each intake system consists of: Prepreg Carbon Fibre Venturi Housing High Flow Double Cone Air Filter Aluminium Cowl for smooth airflow entry Prepeg Carbon Fibre Intake Duct (also available in plastic) Laser Cut Cold Air Scoop with Surround Laser Cut Stainless Steel Brackets Laser Cut Slam Panel Plate Carbon Intake Housing and Duct The filter housing comprises of a high flow filter, aluminium cowl, laser cut bracket and the carbon pod itself. The carbon pod shrouds the reverse mounted filter and smoothly shapes the airflow down to the intake tube. This smooth reduction in cross sectional area invokes the Venturi effect where the airflow accelerates whilst maintaining laminar conditions. It can be thought of as a large velocity stack - below is a diagram to show the comparison between our patent pending design and a regular intake system. Further details can be read in the Technology page. The duct channels cold air from the slam panel opening to the filter. By designing the duct to smoothly transition from the rectangular opening at the front to the circular opening for the filter, it allows the airflow to remain as direct and smooth as possible.   A key feature of our system is the addition of a scoop into the grill which opens up a direct path for cold air to enter the duct. When the bonnet is closed, it prevents a direct air feed to the duct and the only path for cold air to enter is the small gap between the closed bonnet and the top of the grill - or the small slits on the other side of the grill. This means that the intake will draw some air in from the hot engine bay area. With our scoop system - when the car is in motion there is minimal chance for hot air to enter the intake and so the intake temperatures are lower than the OEM airbox. The S5/S4 engine bay becomes heat soaked very quickly so simply having an open cone system would result in better airflow but with higher inlet temperatures. We therefore completely re-engineered the inlet track from the turbo inlet pipe to the front grill with a highly efficient sealed system. The restrictive stock airbox and flexible plastic inlet pipe have been replaced with a Venturi filter housing and a duct system with smooth transitions. Furthermore, by removing the convoluted stock inlet pipe and replacing it with our one-piece Venturi housing and solid tube, the airflow is much smoother as it enters the turbo inlet tube. It was developed to achieve two objectives – 1) De-restrict the turbo inlet paths. 2) Maintain low inlet temperatures. The first objective was met by providing each turbo with a separate filter and Venturi stack in order to reduce drag and allow the turbos to work more efficiently. The second objective was met by enclosing the filters inside a carbon airbox and feeding them with an additional scoop added behind the front grill. The C7 RS6/RS7 engine bay has multiple heat sources from different directions so a simple configuration of open filters and shields would result in higher IAT values. Our carbon airbox enclosure has been designed to maximise the use of the available volume and block all sources of heat. The resulting performance gains and aesthetics are industry leading for the C7 RS6/RS7. The Eventuri Difference The C7 RS6/RS7 Eventuri system uses 2 Venturi stacks mounted to the filters which smoothly transition to the turbo tubes. These provide an aerodynamically efficient airflow path from the filters to the turbos. Not just another cone filter with a heat shield but a unique design which invokes the Venturi affect and allows laminar flow to be maintained throughout the tubing, reducing the drag on the turbos. Extensive testing was carried out on this system both on the Dyno and road. Firstly the dyno tests were carried out showing an impressive gain of approximately 19hp and 17ft-lb of torque. This translates on the road to increased part throttle and full throttle response with the car pulling much more eagerly to the redline. The testing was done on the same day back-to-back and temperatures were monitored to ensure consistency. The car was tested firstly with the stock intake - hood closed. We then left the car on the dyno and installed the Eventuri. The car was then run again - hood closed. Several runs were carried out with both configurations to get a consistent result. We then took the car for some road testing using a Vbox unit to record the acceleration from 60-130mph (also 100-200Km/h). Testing was carried out on the same stretch of road - again on the same day to keep variables minimum. Results show that with just the intake added, the acceleration times from 60-130mph and also 100-200Km/h reduced by 0.4 seconds which is a significant change at such speeds. All these heat sources require a complete airbox system as shielding - a simple cone and heat shield just cannot do the same job. During development we tested 2 open filters with heat shielding and the inlet temperatures increased significantly causing a loss of power. The airbox prevents these heat sources from adversely affecting the cone filters and is connected to the carbon duct which feeds the enclosure with cold air. To connect our doubled coned filters to the stock turbo pipes, we designed a pair of tubes with smooth curves and with an innovative Venturi stack matched to the inner diameter of the filter neck. This curvature allows the airflow to remain laminar as it goes through the filter and enters the tubing - which is important as higher rpm where the turbos are pulling in air at high velocity. The tubing design results in an aerodynamically efficient flow path from the filters to the turbos allowing the turbos to generate boost more effectively and reducing lag. On the road this is noticeable with the car having a sharper and more eager throttle response as boost is generated quicker. Flow Simulation As part of our R&D process we carry out flow simulations through our intake systems to ensure that our initial concepts and calculations are reasonable. The simulation also helps us to further optimise the system for smoother airflow where possible. The flow simulation through a single tube shows an increase in velocity from the filter to the outlet - which is expected as the cross sectional area reduces. It also shows the smooth transition between the filter and tube with the Venturi stack allowing the airflow to narrow down while remaining laminar in nature. Flow Simulation As part of our R&D process we carry out flow simulations through our intake systems to ensure that our initial concepts and calculations are reasonable. The simulation also helps us to further optimise the system for smoother airflow where possible. These ducts have been designed to fit over the stock cold air ducting channels and direct ambient air into the filters. These ducts seal the openings of the filter housings and prevent heated air from entering the filters. Our intake tubes are again crafted from 100% prepreg carbon fibre. Each tube has an integrated MAF sensor mount which is CNC machined from aluminium. The shorter left side tube smoothly transitions from the carbon housing down to the turbo inlet tube. The longer right side intake tube has to clear the fan shroud and strut brace. To do so we employed the same principle as the stock tube in changing the cross section from a circle at the turbo inlet tube to an oval for clearance over the shroud, then back to a circle at the filter housing end. We ensured these transitions were gradual so as not to disrupt airflow, furthermore we maintained the same cross sectional area in order to keep the velocity through the tube constant. The final components in this system are the front scoops - essential to direct ambient air to the ducts and then to the filters. The scoops were designed for maximum efficiency in directing the incoming air to the stock duct openings. Many aftermarket scoops have a large flat area almost perpendicular to the oncoming air - not great for channeling it into the ducts as the airflow just "hits" this flat portion and creates turbulence. The Eventuri Scoops have been designed to sit directly behind the front grills to capture as much air as possible and with a continuous curve to the duct opening to ensure this airflow is efficiently channeled

This is a key feature of the intake design where we have removed the requirement for a convoluted rubber hose between the airbox and the turbo inlet tubes. The filter housings and integrated tubes extend all the way to the stock turbo tubes and are able to move as one piece with the engine through the strut braces. This removes the extra interfaces of having a separate convoluted tube which the stock system requires for flexibility as the stock airboxes are mounted to the chassis so cannot move. The result is a smoother path from the filter to the turbo inlets and therefore the turbos are able to function with less drag. The diagram below summarises the differences between the stock airbox and the Eventuri F92 filter housing.   INTERNAL VOLUME Another key design feature of the intake housings is the internal volumes of the tubing as they pass through the strut braces. On the F90 M5, the airbox system must pass through an oval opening in the strut brace on each side before reaching the turbo inlets. We have managed to increase the internal size of our intakes at this junction which results in more available volume for the turbos to draw from and therefore less restriction. The increase in cross sectional areas between the Eventuri and the stock airbox is 31% as follows: Internal Cross Sectional Area of intake tube at the strut brace: Stock Airbox Tube = 6487mm² Eventuri Intake Tube = 8497mm² PATENTED TECHNOLOGY Our patented filter housings have a smooth reduction in cross sectional area as they shroud the filters and taper down to the tubing. This carbon duct has been designed to fit over the stock cold air duct and direct ambient air from the scoop into the filter. It seals against the engine bay heat whilst still allowing some air entry from the cold side of the engine bay where the hood meets the wing. In addition, there is a heat shield attached to the side which blocks the hot air from the radiator and the alternator from directly impacting onto the carbon housing. This shield reduces direct heat soak onto the carbon housing and therefore contributes in keeping IAT down.
